Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The manuscript falls within the scope of Károli English Studies.
  • The manuscript is original, has not previously been published in substantially the same form, and is not currently under consideration by another journal.
  • The manuscript is between 5,000 and 6,000 words, including footnotes and the bibliography.
  • The manuscript is written in English, has been carefully proofread, and consistently follows either American or British spelling conventions.
  • An abstract of approximately 250 words and five keywords are included.
  • Citations and bibliography follow the Chicago Manual of Style, Notes and Bibliography system.
  • The manuscript has been anonymized for editorial review.
  • Author names, affiliations, acknowledgements, and other identifying information have been removed from the manuscript file.
  • All necessary permissions for third-party copyrighted material have been obtained.
  • All authors have approved the submission.

Author Guidelines

Károli English Studies welcomes original research articles within the broad field of English Studies.

Length

Research articles should normally be between 5,000 and 6,000 words, including footnotes and bibliography. 

Language

Manuscripts must be written in English. Authors may use either British or American English, provided that usage is consistent throughout the article.

Abstract and Keywords

Each submission should include an abstract of approximately 250 words and five keywords.

Style and Referencing

Manuscripts must follow the Chicago Manual of Style, using the Notes and Bibliography system.

Sources should be cited in footnotes, with a complete bibliography at the end of the article.

Authors are responsible for the accuracy and completeness of all citations and bibliographical information.

Manuscript Preparation

Submissions should be provided in an editable Microsoft Word format.

The manuscript should contain:

  • title;
  • abstract;
  • five keywords;
  • main text;
  • footnotes where required;
  • bibliography.

Anonymous Review

Manuscripts must be prepared for anonymous editorial review.

Authors should remove their names, institutional affiliations, acknowledgements, and other directly identifying information from the manuscript. Author information will be collected separately through the OJS submission system.

Self-citations should remain in the manuscript where academically necessary but should not be phrased in a manner that unnecessarily identifies the author.

Original Scholarship and Author Responsibility

Submissions must represent the authors’ own scholarly work. 

Authors remain responsible for the accuracy, originality, and scholarly reliability of the submitted manuscript. Where a submission contains serious defects such as fabricated or unverifiable references, inaccurate or misrepresented quotations, unsupported claims, defective translations, inappropriate attribution, or analysis that cannot be followed or assessed, the manuscript may be rejected without further review and without an invitation to revise and resubmit. The journal is not required to determine how such problems arose.

Where artificial intelligence forms an integral part of the research process itself, its use must be described in the methodology. This includes cases in which an AI system is used to produce, classify, analyze, interpret, or transform research material, or when its outputs are treated as data or evidence.

Conference Papers

Participants in the Károli English Studies Conference are invited to develop their presentations into articles for submission to the journal. Conference participation does not guarantee publication.

Figures, Images, and Third-Party Material

Authors are responsible for obtaining any permissions required for the reproduction of copyrighted images, extended quotations, or other third-party material.

Any material excluded from the article's Creative Commons license must be clearly identified.

Submission

Manuscripts should be submitted through the journal's online submission system.

All submissions are subject to initial editorial screening followed, where appropriate, by double-anonymous editorial review.

Copyright Notice

Authors retain copyright in their published work.

Articles in Károli English Studies are published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International Licence (CC BY 4.0). This permits users to share and adapt published material provided that appropriate attribution is given to the author and the original publication.

Authors grant Károli English Studies the non-exclusive right of first publication.

Authors may deposit and distribute the published version of their article in institutional or disciplinary repositories, on personal academic websites, and through other scholarly channels, provided that the original publication is properly acknowledged.

Privacy Statement

The names, email addresses, institutional affiliations, and other personal information entered into this journal site will be used exclusively for the stated purposes of the journal and its editorial and publishing processes.

Personal information will not be made available for unrelated purposes or to unrelated third parties, except where required for the operation of the journal, compliance with legal obligations, or the protection of research and publication integrity.

Users may contact the journal regarding the personal information associated with their account or submission.
